Our fundraising challenge

Current sources of funding

Charitable trusts, including Esmee Fairbairn, Henry Smith, Bromley Trust, Wates Foundation and Mercers have supported Startup, funding predominantly core costs. We have recently been approaching a number of charitable trusts, the Big Lottery Fund, corporates and donors to support our Startupnow for Women project by funding multiples of the £7,500 model. City Bridge Trust, Drapers’, Haberdashers’, The Wates Foundation and The Westminster Foundation have committed funding to the project and we received £40,000 matched funding from the Big Give Challenge. Our application to the Big Lottery has been successful and they too, now contribute to our Startupnow for Women Project.

The funding model allows the Startupnow for Women project to be scalable and is designed to adapt to the funding available. If the fund raising target of £450,000 is reached, the outcomes this year will be delivered to 240 women ex-offenders, with 60 starting their own business. This is highlighted in the downloadable PDF here. However, the model allows the project to adapt to lower or higher levels of funding, e.g. if £1,500,000 funding was available, outcomes would be delivered to 800 women with 200 new businesses. The extra resources to run the project are covered within the budget e.g. contributions to mentor and client training will ensure that the extra staff needed are recruited and trained.
