Startup has developed a funding model with the help of Community Innovations UK.
Every £7,500 of funding received will deliver outcomes to 4 women as detailed below, with 1 woman setting up a new business.
Outcome 1
4 women are made aware of self-employment opportunities and directed to appropriate support groups for help in overcoming barriers to employment.
Outcome 2
2 women are provided with tailored support and advice to help them decide the best route to make a fresh start after prison. For those who are ready to start a business, Startup will assign business advisors to help them work out a simple business plan and assess whether the plan is viable.
Outcome 3
1 woman receives tailored support and assistance to help her enter self-employment.
Outcome 4
1 woman receives £2,500 each to cover the start-up costs of her new business
The woman selected to have further support and funding to start her own business will become economically independent and less likely to re-offend. Every woman who has contact with the project will benefit from raised self esteem and greater hope for the future. By engaging with women who are still serving their sentences or in the early stages of release, our project encourages women to be excited and hopeful about their futures.
Mentoring our clients every step of the way is a large part of our success. By the end of the project, four clients will be trained to become qualified peer mentors and 40 volunteer mentors from the community will be trained and supported by Startup for two years to offer support to our new business start ups.
